Seismic behavior of <scp>RC</scp> columns under high active confinement force

Abstract This paper details the invention of a tensioning and anchoring device based on “wedge‐cutting effect” that can tension anchor multi‐layer carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) fabric. To achieve high active confinement effect an RC column, is characterized by its capability to lift applied prestress greatest extent minimize loss. All eight columns with identical structural dimensions were designed fabricated, including three unstrengthened five strengthened columns. The seismic performance test finite element simulation conducted under low cyclic reciprocating load. parameters include force axial compression ratio, varying as function number layers CFRP results indicate be significantly improved. Under maximum displacement ductility coefficient ultimate drift ratio specimens four prestressed fabrics increase 87% 152%, respectively, while energy consumption 4.3 times. Additionally, horizontal bearing capacity raised 41%. increases confinement, particularly compression. model in good accord experiment. With force, properties confined concrete are utilized greater extent, more dissipated opening closing numerous micro cracks.
